Second Opinion

After my visit on Monday, with my doctor, I decided that maybe a second opinion would be a good idea. Too many open questions. It all was just not adding up. So after talking with my NEW doctor today it was decided that more blood work would be done. These will be primarily to check my electrolyte levels and kidney functions. Today I have had no temperature at all so that is good. Each day my energy level feels closer tot 100%. Today has been really good. It also was determined that I suffered from a bad case of heat exhaustion rather than a heat stroke. Still serious but much more treatable!! Bottom line is that I must take in more fluids at least two days prior to any runs where I will be exposed to the heat. Although I do take in a lot while running I have not been doing enough to prepare my body the few days leading up to this.

So with that I am now taking in tons of liquids both water and cytomax. This should make a big difference. Once again I feel that there is hope to getting me running again really soon. It is my therapy and I need it. The treadmill will be my new best friend.

Thank you all for your warm wishes and thoughtful comments you have left for both my husband and myself. I am touched!! You all ROCK!!

I will catch up on all of your blogs tomorrow.... I promise.

Robin

What, no Hot Rod? :-p

Glad you are doing better, and I would agree with that diagnosis more. I don't have a degree in "medical" (LOL), so I usually defer to the MDs when we disagree, but something sounded fishy to me also. Anyway, it was very serious, and absolutely must have attention paid in the future, by all of us. Keep improving!

I give no warm wishes...only cool wishes. Sounds like you are doing the things you need to do. Just stick with it and learn from it. Your body can adapt with time. You think those people just run off and do Badwater with no training and no bad experiences like yours? I've done it to. You will be a smarter, better runner for it.

Glad to hear you are feeling better. This heat has been very dangerous and should be taken serious when running. A good reason to enjoy many cold ones!

Glad to hear you are feeling better! This is another great thing to learn about your body before the big races. I, personally, prefer to use my treadmill as a dust magnet, but every once in a while we reacquaint. Have fun and stay safe :-)

I'm glad you are getting some blood work run. It never hurts just to make sure what is going on. Hope you can get back to it quickly :)

Robin - so happy to hear that you had another appt, with a new Dr. and it sounds much better than what happened at your old Dr. Take it real easy, and I look forward to seeing you sunday at the race (Pro cycle championship race - not a running race). Needed to clarify that...

:-)

(((HUGS))) Ohhh geez, I just read your husband's post and that sounded awful! I'm glad that you're feeling better and you got a second opinion. I guess it's not something that I typically think about (since I'm up here in the North Pole :P) but it's definitely something I'll think about from now on. Wow. I'm so glad you're OK.

Take care of yourself Robin - East Coast heat is brutal, because it's so, so humid.
