Recovery and Running

Lots of little updates:

This week has been great. I was able to run a few recovery miles and took a great spin class at the gym with very little talking from the legs. Had a dreamy 90 minute massage followed by a nice glass or two of wine. What a treat.

I will admit I did everything I could to figure out if there was a somewhat local 50 mile event that I could join within the next 2 or 3 weeks. Since my training and mileage was already in place I really thought it was a great idea. I emailed several race directors in hopes they could fit just one more person in but no luck. These events are normally full within a short amount of time once registration is open. Normal running field of 300 runners, so they fill fast. It was worth a try though.

I also made an appointment with my doctor for my yearly check up and also to discuss my stomach issues during the races. This will be in late December. Likely will be referred to a Gastrologist.

Other than that I have just been planning next year’s goals and events. My running will consist of trails and I will likely put one or two road cycle events in there as well.

Very weird not to be joining the girls for a trail run this weekend. We have been doing this for so long that it will be odd to wake up tomorrow and just be at home. I have promised the boys breakfast so that will be a nice treat. At some point these legs will be moving tomorrow!!

Monday I have a program assessment at the gym. Will implement a weight/strength training program to compliment the running goals. Yoga is once again in my future. If only I could stick with it.

Thank you all for your awesome comments. Time for some more planning…….

Robin

I know that "one more race" feeling so well! It is probably best the way it worked out, but I'm not one to talk ;-)

Tomorrow is a new day, and next year is a new season! Woo hoo!!!

I HAVE to get back into yoga, too. This weekend I will start back with it. I don't know why it is such a struggle for me to fit it in because I really do love doing it. It makes me feel relaxed and centered and flexible! LOL

Wow, I wish I was that ambitious. You sound raring to go!! I guess Gotta Run is pretty fitting. I know what you mean about having the miles built up and wanting to do another. You could always organize your own little private thing with the girls if they are game.

Happy Weekend!!

Dang girl!!! I don't blame you for wanting to get back into a 50 miler though. That unfinished business feeling, huh? Before you know it, you'll be signing up for a 100 miler ;-)

Gotta love those "dreamy massages." Glad to hear your recovery is going well. I'm sure you will figure out your stomach on those long races. It's just a matter of finding the right combination of stuff that gives you the energy but keeps your stomach happy. You'll do it!

Sounds like you may be closer to figuring out your tummy issues. You'll find YOUR race to do, and by then - you'll have it all figured out and actually enjoy the race without all the problems.

I suspect there may not be a magic bullet for the race day issues you are experiencing. If you don't get it during training, and all other things are constant, then it could be altitude, the stress of the event, pressure put on yourself, or some combination of those 3. I do hope you find a simple answer, though.

I say go sign up for a marathon, and run the damn thing twice. Be really obvious on the first lap so that on the second lap the people recognize you and wonder what the heck is going on.

Good luck with the yoga ... perhaps you'll inspire the rest of us to get moving and start stretching.

Best of luck finding a "loca" 50M
