An Unexpected PR!!!

I could hardly wait to post my results from the Holiday Lake 50k (35 mile plus mile) race!!!

Even upon the arrival of the night before the race I was unusually calm. My race meal was noodles with a little bit if tomato sauce and a piece of garlic bread. I did not stuff myself like I have in past races. Even my sleep was great regardless of the dump hotel room that we had. Seriously it was the worst. The tobacco smell was so strong that I would have sworn that someone was chain smoking right in our room.

The morning of the race was also calm. Temps were much better than first predicted with a starting temp 44 degrees. Slight winds but pleasant. We started in the dark and my headlamp came in very handy. Single trek trails to start and runners had to funnel in the trails until it
opened up a bit and you could begin to pass and settle in a good pace. Normally I obsess about my time and distance remaining but for the most part I rarely had a clue of where I was at. I focused on just getting to the next station and moving. The river crossing were surprisingly refreshing (all four of them).
Somewhere around mile 22 or so I had to take a quick pit stop and go to the bathroom. I have become rather fast a this task and quickly resumed my run. From this point on eating food at the stations became a huge challenge. Even trying to get down a saltine cracker made me want to throw up. I hammered my liquids and knew that with my replacement drink I would at least be taking in some nutrients. It was better than nothing.

As I neared the finish line I could hear the cheers of the crowd and my emotions were at their highest. My wonderful husband, father, and step mother had huge smiles on their faces and I knew then that the pain that would follow once stopping would be worth it. A PR would bring me in at 6:41 and words can not describe at this very moment how happy I am at my results. I pushed and pushed for hours and with each step I had completed a time that I am so proud of.
Overall this course was wonderful. Lakes, streams, and beautiful winding trails would provide what trail running is all about. Each runner was so friendly and supportive. Short conversation as we passed each other sharing a brief story of our love for the trails and future goals. I love the spirit and attitude of each runner out there.

Thank you all for your well wishes!! It is a great feeling to know that so many cheer you on!! You guys are the best.

Today I will just rest and enjoy all of my thought of a great run. More pictures will follow but here are just a few to start.......

From one happy trail runner......

Robin

Congratulations Robin on the awesome PR!

Somtimes I wonder if we "worry" too much about times, speeds and somehow keep ourselves from running freely and just enjoying the run. It seems like I can run fastre when I throw all the "stuff" out the window and just run.

Again, congrats on a great race and PR! You earned it!

WOW!!!! Yah. I'm so very happy for you. I bet you are on cloud 9. I was gonna call you saturday and see how you did, but I don't have a working phone. Yep, mine is dead, and I don't have your # memorized.

If you see this while at work, give me a ring if you're not busy.

I'm ecstatic for you!!!!! You totally deserved a good race report more than anyone!!!

My name is Robin - I kick arse and take names at 50K's. You got a problem with that?

Congratulations on your PR! Glad all went according to plan. Seems the weather cooperated in many places across the country this weekend.

Great job, Robin!!! I'm sure you are glad to be back in the swing of things, and I'm glad to hear a successful report. Gotta string a few of these together now! And you don't have to PR every one, but I'm sure that you (like me) want to.
:-D
