Ice...Ice...Baby...

What is one of the best was to be held accountable?  Email your friends your training plan. :)

Since Susan knew I had 16 miles on the trails she offered to run at least 10 miles of it with me and I was thrilled to have her company.  She is so positive and did great!!  We talked about a million things and even laughed about all of the miles we shared on the trails last year training for events.  Priceless stuff!!!

It did not take long and we began our climb to the top of the parks highest point.  Add in humidity and tons of sweat and we were two soaked rats in no time.  Talk about dirty, nasty legs.  I am continually amazed at the abilities of our bodies and what limits we can push them to.  It has been months since I have hit these types of digits on long runs and Saturday's 16 miles of trails felt great.   Sure I could tell I was gassing out towards mile 14 but my legs and mind felt strong.

Following the run I drove straight to a gas station near my house and purchased 2 large bags of ice.  HEAVEN I TELL YOU!!!  I filled the tub with cool water and then dumped the bags on top of my legs for 10 minutes.  What a difference it makes in recovery.

Today Scott and I rode for a half hour just to flush the legs and get them moving a bit.

This week begins my Build Phase of training.  I am ready..... bring it on.... just that much closer to MMTR.

Robin

Side note:  Several of you have commented on the wall art in our sun room where I post from.  I have taken some (not all) of our race bibs and framed them with a picture.  Just ones that meant something extra special to us.  Anything from our first marathon, our oldest sons mud run, or our youngest sons first 5k.  Just a way to remember that great times!

I did my first ice bath today after a 10 mile run yesterday and a 70 mile ride today with Wes. My legs feel much better, though next time Im gonna do 3 or 4 bags of ice

A stream, river, or ocean is my preferred method of chilling my legs after a run but the tub sure works good too! The problem with the tub is that Michelle can hear me scream when I get it.

Your running sounds like it's building up very well. Keep up the good work and make sure you pay attention to your hydration, and fueling. Rest will make you stronger as well! Build up those sleeping hours if you can.

Cheers!

Sounds like a grand day out, I am finding that the miles just float by with good company!

That's awesome that you have friends like that. So sweet!

And HOW CUTE is that idea (with the bibs) I might have to steal that from you ;-)

I like the idea of dumping in the ice AFTER I get in. Having the water ice cold BEFORE I get in just doesn't do it for me :-) Thanks for the tip!!

LOVE the framed race bib idea!

Congrats on finishing your 16 miler. And I'll have to try an ice bath one of these days...I hear good things about them. Good luck entering your new phase of training, too.

I just loved the title of your post!! I see that you didn't mention the snake incident at the beginning of the run!!!!(Considering it was only 3 inches at most, and you never saw it until I screamed!)

Enjoyed the run, my friend! You are always a motivator!Looking forward to a run this weekend--woohoo!

Great Job on the long trail run, where did you do your run, which park. I'm training for the New River 50k in Oct and looking for some new trails, close to greenville.

Great job on the trail run, sounds like your on your way to conquering the MMTR.. Always good to have someone to run with there out there..

Ohh, ICE baths, those can sting. I actually go swimming the day after a race, works pretty good for recovering as well.
