Let the Training Begin...

This weekend marks the first of many weekends to come that I will begin the adventure of training leading up to the 1350 miles ( my part will be 400 or more miles)of riding that will take place for our Challenge to Conquer Cancer ride from Greenville, SC to Austin, TX in October. We had our first team meeting this past Sunday and I know now more than ever that this event is for me. What a great group of riders!!

I do feel as if I am ahead of many on the mileage front but my goal is to get faster, stronger, and just become a better overall cyclist. This event is not a race and I know this. It is all about the CAUSE. I will stick with the team plan of riding 4 days a week. My plan is to average anywhere from 160-200 miles per week. So let the fun, pain, and tons of saddle time begin. Nothing like a great team to train with and having a plan in place already makes me happy!

Weekly overview:

Monday Weight training

Tuesday – 34 miles – will focus on pace and climbing

Wednesday Weight Training

Thursday – 30-45 miles

Friday – OFF

Saturday – 70-90 miles

Sunday – 30 miles – recovery ride

Rinse and Repeat… and you have it.

At lunch I went and eyed some new bike candy with Scott. Put me in a clothing store and I freak but place me in a cycle shop and I love it. Carbon is the new black people... :)))

Have a great holiday weekend!!

Robin

you might as well buy a new bike now - best to train on what you will ride for the challenge!!

Good luck with this training program! Sounds pretty tough!

It looks like a sound plan. Pacing, some hills for strength, and lots of distance are a good plan for your ride.

I have to say, I can't believe the distances you do. I will be happy when I can do those distances as my recovery times will have improved substantially.

FWIW, my friend and club president Jeff did the Davis Double Century last weekend in record heat, and he and club member Savorn both finished. I would suggest aerobars though. They really save the hands and wrists when you push the millage.
