No More Wasted Energy

First I want to thank you all for your input on the Taper question!!!

I have decided to maintain the 40ish miles this week and next unless my body tells me different. The week of the event I will do several days of short runs with my last run being on May 31st. This will give me two complete days off. Legs should feel nice and fresh for the event.

So as I arrived home yesterday I quickly laced my shoes up for a 5 mile run. Legs felt a little heavy in the beginning but by the 2nd and 3rd mile they were fine. My average pace was 9:20 with just a few hills. I am still working on trying to maintain a rather level pace. It seems I am all over the board and I am certain that once I can achieve this I will be more efficient and stronger on my longer runs. It all comes down to wasted energy and I will need all I can get during the upcoming months. Following the run I did two set of a resistance upper body workouts and then a 1 mile run back to the house.

Tonight I will do another 5 miles and then go to a Pilate’s class at the YMCA. Although I don’t care to send 60 minutes doing core work I am smart enough to know how very important this is. I don’t do well with slower workouts.

Happy Running.

Robin

Great! Glad you had a good run yesterday. I wish they had a morning pilates class. I would so waste that time in the morning doing that. Have fun tonight and enjoy doing core work. You know how important it is.

Funny thing about core work: the results are almost invisible because it mainly supports improvement from other work. But skipping it sure becomes obvious!

I'm also trying to improve my stride and overall run efficiency. My stride is all jacked up, with heavy heel-strike and uneven push off. I'm having to concentrate on pushing off with my big toe, which should even out my calf strength. Who knew running could be this technical, huh?

Sounds like a great plan!!! Pilates, huh? Let me know how that goes. My MIL raves about it.
