A lot of heat with some speed

It seems like forever since I ran a 5k race. Mostly I just can not justify to my husband on the race fees when I have signed up for so many other marathons and ultras this year. Today I set out for a mapped 5k course and was very pleased with the end result.

Temps were at a steamy 94 degrees with a heat index of 96 degrees. Very hot indeed!! I decided that since this was a shorter distance I would not take water which later I blessed myself out for doing. STUPID GIRL!! I will also mention that the course only had two somewhat decent inclines in the road so for the most part it was fairly flat. This would reflect in my time. SO the results are in.........

3.1 miles = 23:44 (7:39 per mile)

I was amazed!! I will try this again in a few days. I still keep looking at my watch to make sure my eyes are not tricking me. WOW!! The demons were out but I did it!! Thanks for cheering me on Mendy and Scott!! It was a crazy thought to do this today but I knew that by sharing it with the two of you the pressure was on to not embarris myself.

As for the shoes... I ran 4 miles yesterday in my trail shoes. Perfect with no knee pain. Today I ran in the new Nike road shoes. No knee pain. Maybe my mind was to busy trying not to die in the heat to notice any pain.

Following my run I jumped on the elliptical for 15 minutes and then took a 30 minute PIT class at the YMCA. My legs will feel that class tomorrow.

Two weeks until training for the fall Ultra's begin. I can hardly wait!!!

Happy Running.

Robin

WoW!!!! Girl... that pace! that time for a 5K. I only hope that I can do something like that one day! You soooo earned it too with all your hard work. Wish you were doing candlelight? hint... hint...

Glad no knee probs either!!

Oh, I forgot to mention. Thanks...for the mention. I knew you would pull a time like that! That's a huge PR, and it wasn't even a race. Imagine your time with all the adreneline from a race?

isn't the pressure sometimes what gets us out there or do more than we want to. Temps were HOTTTTTTTTT.... :-)

WOOHOO!! Super speedy!! Great job! 96 is hot to run a 5K in...even for this AZ girl!

It's so funny that you mentioned that about the garage, I forgot to mention that I did not crash into this time. :>)

Must have been all the carb loading the other night. Great job on the run, and escaping the knee pain. I'm still fairly sure it's the Wave Rider 10s. Here's some opinions from SlowTwitch.com:

impressive pace! and even with no water. :) i'm glad the trail shoes worked yesterday and good to hear that the new nikes felt good today. i bet it was just those other dang-burn shoes that were causing the pain. (fingers crossed) oh, and i'm not envying the heat wave you are having over there.

I was not surprised at your pace. But to do that in the heat was even more impressive. You should sign up for a 5K and "blow it out"....

HOLY MOTHER!!! You killed that 5K!!! In the heat no less!!! Time to sign yourself up for a 5K! LOL

Am I THAT transparent? HAHA It's in my nature I guess :-/ Plotting out future projects before I even get my current project done :-X :-X. Next year I think I'll try my hand at the Hudson Mohawk Marathon. Since it will be my first marathon, I'll stick close to home (it's here in Albany). I like familiar things when I'm going into the unknown. After that (and if I dig it LOL) I'll get out my travel bags and probably do something bigger. Who knows, maybe I will join ole Java for the Rock and Roll Marathon in AZ hehe

I agree with Scott! Sign up for a 5K, already lady! :-) You are so very fast, Robin. I know you enjoy the endurance of the sport, but, you gotta love to see that time and pace for a 5K. That's awesome!!!

What supplements are you on and how can I get some? That amount of work is just not ... human.

Hey Wait Missy... one word "ULTRA"- meaning we move for LONG periods of time slowly :-)

SLOWLY, don't shock ur body and do that 5k fast thingy--haha

Friggin Speedy Momma though, awesome pace way to go... OK well maybe one 5k, we just will keep it on the down-low!

i love those runs where you can't quite believe how fast you are running ... you think surely, my watch is wrong, or i miscalculated the distance (i totally second guess myself - think there is no way i am running this fast)... how fun is it when you realize watch & distance are all jiving with each other & you did indeed run a good fast one! nice job!

You could also say "a lot of speed with some heat." Anyhow, it was impressive how you combined the two.

Great job with the 5k time trial! You were flying, especially in that kind of heat.

Glad to hear that you have had some runs with no knee pain. Maybe switching back and forth with your shoes will help.
