Temps were cold this morning but SS and I bundled up and hit the trails first thing this morning. How can you build all year long, lower your miles following an event, and ramp back up only to feel like you are starting all the way over building again? For the most part the run was uneventful but we worked hard at the miles and hills to earn this 20 miles. My legs were totally fatigued and I was thrilled to complete the hours of running today. Still, the morning sun and signs of frozen spots in the creak was just beautiful and I feel blessed to be able to live this part of my life doing what I enjoy....doing what is healthy.... and laughing along the way at all of the ups and downs. This week is considered a taper week. Six weeks until our first Trail Ultra of the year. SO many miles to go.
On a non-running note... new haircut and glasses... so cool. I can see again!!!
Can't leave my little Layla out... What a great dog!!

Love the Cut & Specs ...u look great!
Way to knock out 20 miles Today!! Congrats :-)
Sounds like a great run, love those crisp winter mornings and the sense of satisfaction when you're all done.
Oh dear... If we could take off as much time as we want and then pick up where we left off, I wouldn't train at all!
I luv Schnauzers. Grew up with them as a boy. Yours is a beauty, as is your new hair cut and specs :-)
Love your blog. Running, family, Christmas. Good stuff. I see that you are in SC, my guess is the upstate. I'm in North Charleston.
Found you on the Complete Running Network.
Great job on the run.. Crisp cold trails underneath your feet. What a lovely sound..
Way to get through your 1st long trail run of the year.
Lookin good chica ;D Sounds like a fab run!
i'm jealous. i can't wait to get back on the trails. happy 2008!
Ahh!! Cute haircut and glasses! 20 miles sounds awesome!!
ooh! love the haircut! i just got new glasses too! practically same as yours! too funny. i just did my 21 today. its crazy - training for a marathon - running it, taking one week off & then starting to train for another all over again. insanity. we are crazy.
Very cute!!
You're right back at it. Great job.
I love the new glasses and cut! I am lucky that my brother actually makes glasses so I can feed my need for new ones quite often! Your run sounds awesome!
Love the glasses! They look great on you. Like the pic of Scott in the background. What a nut!
Glad you had a good run, although sounds like it was challenging. You worked hard for it, like you said.
Taper? I tried that once but it's overrated. Hey, the new hair is spunky! If you want to look like a tough ultra runner you need to get some duct tape on those new glasses. I just went in for a Lasik evaluation and they told me they would take my money. I think it will really help with the multi-hour runs to not wear contact lenses. I can't, or at least don't want to run with glasses on.
Last week with a marathon on Monday, a 5 mile race on Tuesday, and a 50K on Saturday I actually ended up with a sore knee. I've delt with the same problem before and it will go away if I stretch and not push my pace too much.
Good luck with your training. Make sure you have fun while you are out on those long runs! Sounds like you two were able to enjoy the sun and ice along the creek.
Question: Have you ever tried duct taping a broom handle to Layla and spraying her down with Endust? Seems like the ultimate house cleaning device. If she's anything like our dog I'm sure she makes sure any food dropped in the kitchen or dining area is picked up quickly:-)
Love the new hair & glasses. Cute dog too!
Oh cute glasses! I've been considering a pair like that, but I'm not sure. You really have the face for it (i.e., cute!)
I know exactly how you feel about the re-building... sure doesn't seem fair! But then again we wouldn't be able to feel the pride and joy of completing little milestones as we re-build. It's like being a new runner all over again- good and bad.
Keep up the good work and good luck on your Ultra!!
