If no one has figured it out yet I totally have an OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) type personality. Basically running helped me realize the full potential of being this type of person. Here is how I work… once I find something I obsess on how to add this to my life and master it in the best of my ability. Take running; in Jan. 2003 I began an outdoor boot camp class. One of the requirements to get in was a ½ mile run. Let me just say that after my pathetic attempt at this I was convinced that I would die of heart failure right then and there. So what happens next… I obsessed…planned…and now today I run distances that are crazy. Fast forward to Christmas of 2006. I wanted to learn how to knit. After some instruction I went to knitting rows and rows making what would be the world’s longest scarf. Every moment I could have the knitting needles in my hands I did.
So why do I bring this up? Yoga of course. It is my new fix these days. I was thrilled to master a new pose called the crow. More amazed than anything that I could actually do it. Now almost every commercial break I am jumping on the floor practicing poses that challenge me.
Before any of you say it I already know I am a nut case. My husband already knows this as well and still loves me just the same. My entire reason for this post is to hopefully challenge anyone who believes that something is too hard. I am not the most coordinated person but what is life without a little challenge. We should never settle for where we are at today but rather what is in the unknown. So join me… add something new that takes you out of your comfort zone. I guarantee you will feel more alive than ever!
Workout update: This new weight routine is kicking my butt!! Seriously, I have been wiped out the two days I have completed this. This girl is humbled. I still have 34 miles of running to do this week and all I could think about last night was hot bath, glass of wine, and a warm bed. I slept like a baby. So it will be 10 miles for Friday and 24 miles for Saturday. My rest day on Sunday will be welcomed with open arms!

I sometimes find a bit of CDO (That's Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, only alphabetized :-) ) creeping into my life. So I totally feel you on that one. I have to usually put a limit on my latest obsession, or I'll burn out quickly.
WE are the normal ones. The other people are the weirdos!
I'm like that too, but for me... It's always learning something new. I push something as far as I can, then I'm off to the next thing. I don't know where this Ironman thing is going to take me. I just hope there's always something new :-)

I know what you mean but I get like that in spurts. I get into things for only so long and then the newness wears off. So far so good with the running though. As long as there something I haven't done, I should be good for bit. I do wonder what will happen after I explore all running aves . . .maybe I'll become a triathlete :P
"Addictive personality" is what I call it for me... and I soo have it when I find something that gets me interested...its an all or nothing move.

THat is a sick yoga pose & I Yoga is on my to do list this year.

We had already figured it out. :D But I love that you do poses during the commercials. I could be better about that -- fitting it in whenever I can. I've been hitting the weights hard, and I am just so sore right now. Not sure I can do the miles, but maybe it will help loosen me up.
Okay, I will try the crow. It looks impossible. :D
At first I thought you took up the sport of diving....then I realized that girl is on the floor! CRAZY! Good job...I don't think I can do yoga. I usually end up giggling too much.
I totally understand because I obsess about certain things as well..running being one of them right now.
I am in the same boat.
Once I get it in my head that I am going to do, buy, fix or get some particular "thing" there is no stopping me. Be it Food, training, drinking, etc. OCD has been my friend (getting in shape) and enemy(rather not mention here). And like david says I frequently face pre-mature burnout and then obsess over the next "thing"
Tri-training has seemed to be one of the exceptions in my OCD string of "too much, too soon, too burnt out"
Congrats on your new "thing". May it bring you much relaxing, much flexibility and very little obsessing. :-)
OCD, I know it well. It is a double edged sword sometimes. BUt the rewards outweigh the behavior for now..
Somehow I see you already planning a 100, after you conquer the 50 milers..
Oh that Yoga pose, congrats on able to do that.. I always fell on my face after 2 seconds.
I agree w/ you about pushing yourself out of your comfort zone. I take you up on that challenge & I WILL master the stability ball! Major props to you on being able to do that yoga pose!
having a disorder doesn't necessarily mean something bad. society wants to make us think that way. As long as there is no harm it can be real of profit – like your determination.
Sounds like OCD is pretty common in the running community! LOL I even got bit by the knitting bug a couple of years ago, too. My biggest problem is I tend to get tons of stuff relating to my new obsession and then get sick of it before I have even used a third of it :P I have lots of bags of unfinished projects around :X
the crow pose is so hard!!!! i could never do it - was always afraid of falling on my face. good for you! i have a feeling you would just master absolutley anything you put your mind to! i'll take you up on your challenge right now - am going to master my taper and go take a nap!!

We are all just a bag full of nuts! At least we can relate to one another!
With you on the OCD, when I am not running I am thinking about it and when I am running I am planning the next run...for me it started as "just loosing a few pounds", then "a marathon" now a "50 miler" you know what's coming next...
