Ditching The Gear

Perfect conditions for todays long run.  Sunny, 60 degrees, slight wind.  I was not able to hit the trails.  Running that distance solo was not a good idea on the trails so I opted for running down town instead.  I have not toured the city lately so this kind of excited me.

The first 6 miles was 100% equipment malfunction!!  The worst was my garmin 201.  It sucks. Once I got it switched from bike mode is was still measuring my distance in feet and that was driving me crazy.  Another quick stop and I got that corrected.  Pace is working.... distance is working.... now I can finally run.  After another 20 or so minutes I looked down to realize that at a red light I never hit START and now I was just laughing.  My fuel belt was also giving me fits.  One of my bottles kept falling out and the other one was locked into place so well that I had to muscle it out to even drink from it.

So at the half way point I ditched all of the gear and that is when the fun began.  I grabbed a few dollars for water and strapped on a simple watch and off I went.  I had no plan in place other than run at least 3 hours total.  I knew my pace was good so I felt I would more than meet the 18 miles needed for my long run this week.

It was a wonderful, scenic run and tons of people enjoying the beautiful day.  Not 100% sure of my exact distance or pace but my legs are telling me that I did it so now I can relax and enjoy the day.  For once I am not going to obsess about it.... really.

Go Patriots!!!!

Sorry to read about your technology failures, glad you had a good run anyway, running without a Garmin...now there's a novel thought.

I was fine until you said: "Go Patriots" :-)

Sometimes, you got to leave all the technical mumbo jumbo behind to kick start that sense of love we have for this stuff :-D

Rock on, sis...

You had me til Go Patriots, also . :D

Glad you got good news on the running at the doc and got some warm weather to celebrate it. It's about killing me to be out of commission and get 40 degree weather. Hopefully I'll be back soon.

Sorry about your Pats.

I really do hate when equipment fails on me. Then again it's just nice to run around and not worry about pace, miles, and such.

Great job on the long run, sorry to hear about your patriots :)

Grew up in Miami, so yeah, MIami dolphins only perfect season record still intact.

Sometimes you just have to laugh when it seems that technology is conspiring against you. Looks like you handled it well and I will have to agree that there is a sense of freedom in ditching all the "gear" every now and them.

congrats on a great run! 18 miles is a nice distance! :-)

This must have been the weekend for everyone to have equipment failure..lol It wasn't until I saw where you also forgot to start your watch that I could laugh about my senior moment w/ my watch on Friday. Too bad I didn't handle it as well as you did.

Sometimes it's nice to go straight "old school" style with a few bucks in your sports bra. Gear can be over rated.

Very disappointed in the PATs but at least my fellow New Yorkers are in good spirits.

good move to ditch the gear every once in a while...last week my mp3 went dead and it was nice to run without tunes for a few hours.

sometimes it's most fun to run "naked"
