Call It A Brick

Greenville Sprint Tri in 2006

I know what some of you are thinking..... you triathlon crazies.... but when I tell you about Tuesday's night ride with the group you will think I am all in.

Group ride was another great turn out. The separation of the group was a bit confusing this week and I never was really sure what pace group I was in. At mile 10 I was somewhere in the middle of the pack until the entire back half decided to take the short route and cut there ride by 8 miles. So now I found myself in the back of the pack and not happy. As hard as I tried I never could gain enough ground to pass and stay in front of some of the others in this group but I did the entire 29 miles with very good effort so I was pleased.

Ride: 29 miles at 16.6 average pace

Immediately following I strapped on my running shoes for a 30 minute run with a friend. First few minutes felt heavy just as I remember from past triathlon training it lifted enough and we pushed on.

Run: 31 or so minutes at 8:50 or so pace

We grabbed a bite to eat and as I drove in my driveway my two boys were standing there waiting on me. They wanted to go for a 2 mile run at 10pm at night!! No way I was passing the opportunity to join them and off we went. It was a blast and I enjoyed every minute of it with tired legs and all. We laughed and carried on talking about everything. Still on a high from the great time we had. They told me how proud they were of what all I had done and I just wanted to cry with joy at what a lucky mom I am.

Run: 2 miles at 9:00 pace

So not bad for a brick... 29 cycle miles and 5.5 miles running.

Still feeling great today!!! Now I am gearing up for the Wheels for Meals ride on Saturday. Scott and I have both picked the 40 mile distance and looking very forward to it.

I don't know, if my wife were pedaling her arse all over town I'd probably have a problem with that! ;)

And what's with you triathletes writing numbers all over your body? I guess it's less permanent than a tattoo.

I'm just envious because I swim like a brick.

Enjoy your ride this weekend. Sounds like you are really enjoying the spring season.

Ah, the first brick after a long break. Nice feeling huh? Like your quads are made of wood, coated in lead? Love it! LOL

Good for you, running with the boys! That had to feel great, and you are obviously such a good example for them. Hopefully they keep it going and enjoy a lifetime of fitness.

Hey, a 20 week training plan for the SC Half tri starts in May. Just sayin...
