Holiday Clean Up

Why did I do it? Not once but three times over the holiday weekend! I have been eating really clean over the past several weeks and have been feeling great. That is until this past weekend. The hot dogs, fudge brownies, beer, and anything else I felt like I had to have at the holiday cookouts hit my stomach and made me suffer. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy and do not deprive myself treats if I crave them but I have really limited them and have controlled my portions so much better. Lots of fruits and fresh veggies every day until this past weekend. Last night was it and after I ate half a bottle of Tums I was pounding water until I went to bed.

I have added my swim/bike/run numbers on the side of my blogs and had fun this weekend with all that I did. Ran some shorts runs that felt great. Swam my meters in an outdoor pool which I admit was really cool. Rode with Scott on Saturday to practice drafting and then applied this to the ride on Memorial Day morning with a group of friends. Thrilled to say that this girl DRAFTED and for the first time could really tell the benefits of riding with a pack. It was a blast!!

So onto a new week and back to cleaner eating.

Holidays are made for bad eating and draft (ing) :-)

I was a glutton this weekend. Today it is back on the plan for me.

Someone has got to explain the bike terminology for me ROFLMAO! I know what "drafting" is but I thought it only applied to cars?!? -173297329 points in the "intellectual category" over here :P

Excess on occasion is exhilirating. It prevents moderation from acquiring the deadening effect of a habit. ~W. Somerset Maugham

I think this applies to eating too! It's the "on occasion" part that most Americans seem to have a problem grasping.

Drafting works for running too! When I draft on my bike I always worry about one of those big NASCAR crashes with legs & arms flailing and people flipping over handlebars. I guess it's just a part of the game.

Now go have a Bocca Burger and settle back to your routine!

Great job on getting some workouts in over the weekend. Glad you were able to practice drafting!

I totally hear you with the eating thing. I have such a weakness for sweets, but everything in moderation, right.

Hey...I also had hot dogs, brownies, and beer. Most of my brownie eating was straight from the mixing bowl :)

What's on the grill? mmmmmmm.. steaks.... (drool)

It's all about balance, right? (like I can talk, Mr. OCD) :-)

This was a tough weekend for good eating. Way too many temptations. You'll get everything under control this week.

Good luck.

Holidays have been know to wreck even the most disciplined of eaters. But you know not beat yourself up about it & tomorrow is another day to make different/better choices.

mmmm.... beer....

Don't beat yourself up, it's all a part of kicking off the beginning of summer! :)

Sweet job on the drafting... I'm still afraid to sit on a bike, let alone get that close to another one.

Does it count as multi tasking if you have a "draft beer"?

Your bike numbers are enviable, Robin. I don't put nearly enough time in on my bike AND I know that I should. The beg leg of a tri comprises SO much of the overall time... and yet, I just don't focus on it. It's been very difficult for me to motivate to do anything outside lately-- soooo humid and hot.

Drafting... le sigh... if only it were legal in races, huh? When I do get out there and ride, I'm usually riding with my husband. We take turns drafting off of each other. Love it!

PS- I can't believe you once completed an 18-mile treadmill run! Oh my gosh! My brain, let along my legs, would be fried!

Robin, you're so skinny girl - you don't have anything to worry about! Holidays are made for splurging a little. Doing awesome with all your workouts!!!
