Ever wonder......

Do you ever wonder what you did before … before we all became crazed with fitness, racing, and reaching new goals? I was running with my 14 year old on Wednesday and he made the comment that I had come so far. In what I thought? Both of my boys think I am crazy. This is not new to me. Heck even my husband thinks I am crazy! But here recently they have both expressed that I had gone beyond what they thought I would. Racing longer distances. Training with more focus. It made me think… what did I do with all of my time when I did not train? What would it be like to just come home and do ...nothing? To be honest I cannot imagine my life like that anymore. I even wondered if they wished I was like “most moms” and not do the things I do… but… then I realize this is me. This is who I am. And today I received a phone call from a friend who heard about the Century ride I did this past weekend from my son. She said that he was bragging about my accomplishment. Now how cool is that?!!

This week marked my first official week of training for the November MMTR. Back to a training schedule. I have tapped it on my bathroom mirror so that each day I can see what needs to be done.

Sunday: Long Run 8 miles ( 8:53 pace)
*side note: ran in HOT temps because I did not get my lazy butt out of bed to meet my friend at 7am. I paid for it when I ran at 10:30am instead)
Monday: Off (I actually took a 30 minute nap when I got off of work. Very out of the norm for me but nice)
Tuesday: 21 mile cycle (18.4 mph) / 3 mile run (not sure of pace)
*side note: this was supposed to be a recovery ride but the friend I was riding with was hammering it and I was not going to be dropped J.
Wednesday: 4 mile run (8:23 pace on treadmill)

Today I will run, upper weight, and then swim.

Super excited about Friday. This will be my first trail run at our local State Park in forever. Planning on 10 miles. Temps are somewhat better than last week but I still will prepare well and carry plenty of fluids. This will be a good measuring tool to see where I am currently at and what I need to address in the weeks to follow.

I used to come home, drink, eat, play video games, beat the kids... Next night, come home eat, drink, play video games, beat the kids... Next time, try to sober up, beat the kids, eat... LOL...

No, I don't miss any of that! {just kidding about beating the kids part ;-)}

Good luck with your training! Kick her off strong! 3 weeks to IronGirl!!!

I totally know what I used to do...crafting! Scrapbooks, cardmaking, you name it! Now I have half a room of craft stuff sitting there that I want to sell for tri stuff!

Gosh, I really don't know . . . well, I've always "worked out" but didn't start running until a little over a year ago. You know, I don't even know what the heck I did before I started working out . . .probably just vegged in front of the tv :-X

Napping is always a list-topper of things to do besides train. Way to log those 30 minutes after work! Also, drinking red wine is a close second.

You have accomplished some major feats and I think it is so cool that your son brags about you. Cheers to your next endeavor, I can't wait to hear more about your diligent training.

Your son must be very proud of you! How cute is he to be bragging about his mom.

Have fun on the trail run!

The thing that baffles me, is how I fit all the training in.

Before the boy, I was on my own and didn't mind making a bowl of pasta for dinner at 9 p.m. Now, post-boy, I have someone else to consider in my life. :)

Now that is very cool that your son was bragging on you!!

I wondered, too, if my boys might be embarrassed that I do all this tri stuff and am not the "typical girly mom-type." My older son (17) told me that one of the bigger guys on his football team thought my triathlon stuff was cool. He asked what type of swim workouts I do. He even told me that this young man is now swimming and riding his bike! This made my day :)

Keep up the awesomeness!

Good luck with the official MMTR training. I am not sure what I did before. It's been too long.

I used to come home from work everyday & pig out(think WHOLE bags of chips & ENTIRE cans of cheese dip) on the couch in front of the tube. Now when I come home from working out,I do pig out in front of the tube but now it's salads, lean proteins & complex carbs. I am SO glad I'm not that other person anymore!
