The Heat Is On

Somebody turned up the heat and humidity a bit high here in SC this weekend.  Just a small taste of what summer has in store for us.

Yet again another 50 mile bike did not happen.  Storms rolled through Saturday morning which prevented the ride from taking place.  At 10am I hit the  road for a long run instead.  You don't carb load the night before and do nothing so running it would be.  The heat was a killer!  I tried my best to stay in any shaded areas available but was still exposed to the sun about 55% of the time.

Run: 9 miles (8:38 pace)

The run did not go without drama.  When I arrived home the first time I ran to the computer and realized that I was short on my miles.  I must have said "this sucks" about 20 times before my husband was pushing my sweaty body back out the door to finish the run.  Maybe it was because I was dripping puddles but I am glad that I went back out and completed the run.

So we moved the bike to Sunday.  Again.. not the 50 I had wanted.  Rain was moving in so our group made our way back to the house.  The ride was great and I continue to feel better about drafting.  Even moved into the big ring on a couple of straights to hit some higher speeds.  Loved it!!!!

Ride:  22 mile (16.3 mph average )

This afternoon Scott and I will hit the pool for a long swim.  My plan has 1800 meters but I may push it to 2000 since the bike was cut short. Will likely hit my bike trainer following the swim.  Need to get some more time in since the 65 mile charity ride is next Saturday.

I have officially completed the MMTR training plan.  Just 786 miles from June 1st until November 1st.  Should be a piece of cake.... NOT!!!  Guaranteed to be an adventure.

I ran in Columbus GA this morning along the river for my time trial test. I ran between 8:30 and 9:30 AM. I stopped after twenty minutes to use the sauna I mean bathroom. Jeezus Christey!! I'd say half my run was in the shade, but when I back to the car, I sweated like a l'il piglet!! That's one reason I heart the bike so much. Built in AC :-)

you'll breeze through those 700+ miles. :)

it's getting a bit warm here, too. it hit 70 yesterday. i know, i know, i can tease about the mild weather now but come winter i'm not the one laughing. :(

Sorry to hear you ride was a bust :-( I had mechanical difficulties myself yesterday and ended up short, check back for a report later on. Weather was great and I have my first set of cylist tan lines; 5 1/2 hours in the saddle will do that for you!

Glad to hear you've put your plan to bed, you know I was thinking that the biking is really going to help your quads for those downhill mash sessions.

The heat and humidity has arrived here in NC too. Way to roll with the training despite the weather. I am sure you will be ready for next weekend.

Man, I keep hearing all these peeps talk about the humidity. Plus DO NOT send it my way :P

The important thing is that you got it done, right? ;-)

Congrats to your husband for pushing you back out the door to get your 9 miles!

Those 700+ miles should be a breeze for you... I know it!

Great job adapting your plans to the changing weather conditions. The heat and humidity has definitely come out of nowhere. You should have no prob with the 786 miles

I hate humidity too, sorry it has made training life difficult in your neck of the woods. Look on the bright side, at least you don't have dried buggars on the inside of your nose. Sorry for that visual.

Great training paces, especially the run!

How great of you to get back out the door and finish your mileage (despite the yucky humidity).

That's dedication at it's finest! :)

You have become such a well-rounded athlete; I'm sure your 50M will be a wonderful experience.

During those runs and biking trecks, think about the weather in January. It could be worse. You are doing great considering the weather. If my wife came into the house dripping sweat all over my computer, I would have pushed her out also.
