Your Crazy When.......

You know you are crazy when you sign up for an event that requires most all of your long runs to be over 20 miles each week. To make it even more twisted you have a week where your long run is 26 miles and then another week where your long run is 31 miles. Who in their right mind would call a 31 mile run a training run?? All for the love of running in an Ultra Distance event.

So this past weekend I completed my 26 mile run with success. I managed to take in a Gel every 30 minutes. My liquids where pretty much right on target. Add in a pack of peanut butter crackers, a luna bar and some energy chews and that would be my calorie intake. Forgot the potatoes at home although I know these work from past race events. Still need more calories but it is better than in past weeks.

The only concern on this run was experiencing some strong nausea as soon as I stopped at the end. It was awful. Probably the worst that I have had in some time.

So on to another week. Let’s see I think I only have 50 miles this week. When will this twisted training end…… 40 more days!!!!!

Child #1 came in 3rd place in the XC meet on Saturday with a PR of 19.19!!! I was so proud of him!! Talk to you later--time to run. (imagine that!!)

How many S-Caps are you taking on your runs? One of our woman trail runners was taking one per hour like many of us guys do and that ended up making her sick. You may want to decrease your intake or go to a milder product like saltstick.

Looks like training is going well for you. Just need to figure out the nausea issue and in 40 days you will be seeking the finish line, one aid station at a time!

Okay, forget the mileage, what impressed me the most is that you were able to take 1 gel every 30 minutes.
Alright, the mileage impresses me too, but you are so much tougher than I am.

Yes, you're crazier than I am :-)

But, man, I think I'd be nauseous too if I took a gel in every 30 minutes. Maybe potatoes will help calm the tummy down and help provide more carbs. Hope so!!

That's wild. I'm glad all the fuel worked out for you! Sorry about the nausea afterward. Maybe you need to walk for longer or jog a bit at the end?

Holy cow! A 26-mile training run! Wowza! And here I am gloating proudly about my first ever 10 miler! LOL!!! How do you carry enough H20 on you for a run this long? Do you strategically stash it along your route? I'm just so in awe right now... :o)

Your last comment on my blog made me laugh! Basically I picked up Pixie one day, packed for vacation the next, and then took off for nearly 2 weeks! It's good to be back!

Looking forward to reading more about UD training. Wow... my head is still spinning over the length of your 'training run'. :o)

Gotta love those longs runs that take above and beyond, I have those to look forward to soon, but I agree since when is a 35 miler a training run!

I guess next year we'll be saying the same about a 65 miler...fingers crossed!

Robin - I think I remember you from last year. I came up right behind you and almost dropped with you at 33. I moved on through the loop and was pulled after that.

"35 miles" and "training run" shouldn't go together in a sentence. Isn't that a syntax error or something? Wow, you're doing great. Thanks for pushing us 5 milers to higher goals.

Good going, it does take awhile to get the nutrition figured out...good for you.

Love the long runs and am looking forward to an Ultra in 2009!

It looks like you are getting the nutrition thing working out. Great job on the training run. I have a couple of those long training runs comming up shortly with three ultras in the next 100 days.

Those are crazy training runs!! Great job with your food! I was told salt for nausea I had like that but I have no clue.
