No words can come close to describing how proud we are of our son and his decision to serve our country as a Marine. The honor and respect that he has for himself and his uniform is immeasurable. Even being around him for just a short time on base I quickly realized that I (we) have lost touch with the true meaning of freedom and the act of kindness towards one another.
With that here are some pictures of our new United States Marine!!!

Our Proudest moment!!Now he begins his next stage in training and the begining of his life as a man. This is a very weird place for me and I am staying focused on all of the great things that are before him.
On the running front:
Since last week was a recovery week I took advantage of this and rested my legs and mind in preperation of my peak week this week of 58 miles.
On the schedule for the week:
Monday - 10 miles / full weight training
Tuesday - 6 miles
Wednesday - 8 miles / full weight training
Thursday - Off
Friday - 31 miles ( I have no idea where I will be running this one)
Saturday - off
Sunday- 3 miles recovery run
Almost there..... with the race fast approaching I continue to tell myself that if my son can do 13 weeks of boot camp than surely this 54 mile trail race can be conquered.

Awwww, Robin... I know that feeling of pride oh so well. Congratulations to your son. I hope that he enjoys a wonderful and rewarding career serving our beautiful country. I tell ya, my time spent in the AF were some of the happiest moments of my life.
Had to laugh at the "BCGs". I remember those well.
And I'm with the other posters... you have a GROWN son?? My goodness... you don't even look old enough to have a 10 year old let alone a child who is of-age to serve our country. :o)

I can only imagine your pride Robin and have to say that I am very grateful for people like your son who are willing to serve for others who don't, won't or can't!

You just need to find a 50K to run this weekend for your 31 mile training run. I'm sure there's one within driving distance! Not that you feel much like trapezing all over after your trip to your son's Marine Corps graduation.
Coincidentally Michelle, Steve, and I will be running the Marine Corps Marathon at the end of this month. Just us and 30,000 of our closest marathon buddies! Last time I ran it in 2005 and have never been called sir so many times in my life as I was at the expo and race day. As I understand it the money raised goes toward the Marine Corps fitness equipment and sports budget.

Indeed, you look too young to have a son that big. Congrats on your son's achievement. My husband still has and wears his BCGs (Birth Control Goggles, as he calls them) because they are virtually indestructible. Semper Fi!
