Running and Swag

Like so many around me, a cold attacked me this past week.  Early nights to bed, skipped runs, and just plain feeling horrible I am now happy to report that I am going to LIVE!!!

So the plan for my 31 miler was scheduled to take place on Friday morning.  I said that I would not take a vacation day to ever do a long run and I did.  I also said that I would not do a 31 mile run on the roads and I did..... well almost.

At 8am on Friday morning I headed out.  Still hungover from my cold medicine but determined to do this run... or something like it.  The first 10 miles actually felt good.  My pace was not
strong but it was even.  It was not until mile 15 that I found myself sitting on a roadside
guardrail having a heart to heart with ME.  I can only imagine what I looked like.  After about 10 minutes I pushed on and decided that I would come as close to the goal as possible.  Stupid.. maybe... but it was my last and only opportunity to hit my last longest run in this training
 leading to MMTR.

I stopped at two gas stations to fuel up.  I went potty three times.  I even counted over 23 snot rockets before giving up that game of counting.  The finally I called it at 28 miles.  I literally crawled into the neighborhood, took a shower, and crashed for a hard two hour nap.  Amazingly after my nap I felt energized in a weird sort of way.  Maybe because it was the simple fact that I am now on the home stretch of this training.  Heck I just ran over a Marathon... slow.. but just the same I am thrilled!!

Today I ran a few miles in the park with Scott.  Again my pace is still rather slow but I was fine with that.  Moving at all is better than not moving at all.

Just a few weeks ago Scott won the Worth The Weight contest that Stuart was so awesome to put on.  Here is a report of the AWESOME prizes that he (we) received:
Ready to Run with his new gear!!
Can you tell he loves all the swag?!

At first we thought that this might be heavy to wear on the shoe but you don't even know it is there.  Easy to use and VERY accurate with millage and pace.  LOVE IT!!

Both the visor and cap are made from the softest material.  Just melts to your head and very comfortable.

Very cool design and easy to use.  Really works at keeping the junk out of your shoes on the trails.  Love them!

If you have not tired these you MUST.  The recovery ease is a WONDER SUPPLEMENT.  Really speeds recovery up and gets your body ready for the next beating.

So even though Scott was the BIG winner I am thankful that he shares with his loving wife :)

A huge thanks again to Stuart for putting this together.  YOU ROCK!!!!

Lastly, I want to say that ALL of your "Well Wishes" this past week was just plain great.!!

That's some super duper swag there! Yay, Scott! I haven't tried anything to help with recovery, but with the way I've been feeling lately I think maybe I should start.

Love the pics.

I think that pushing yourself 31 minutes after being sick for almost a week is a lot of work. 28 miles is great.

I'm sorry to hear that you had to struggle through illness during your longest run. It sounds like you did the best you would with it though and still got quite a run in.

Get some rest.

Masochist will be yours! You have done the training, both physically and mentally. The cold will be gone and you will feel great. A little less than three weeks to rest up and recover. Masochist will be a treat and well worth your efforts. Until then, Rick

Rock-in!!! If there is one thing I've learned about IM, slow just doesn't matter. That was an awesome 28 miler coming off the cold.

Love the pics of Scott. Next time, tell him to ham it up for the camera :-)

Hooray for feeling better and getting your last long run in!! I'm sure you would have been able to knock out 31 if you'd not had the nasty bug that has been making its rounds. But you do what you have to within the time you have ... With additional rest and a good taper, you'll be ready to rock your race!

Yaaaaay she Lives!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very glad you..uh, I mean Scott likes his Nike Tailwind. I was hoping someone would get some good use out of it.

Awesome job on the 28 miler. No matter how slow it went, you got it in.
