Refreshing Changes

I am in a weird place. You know the place. The one that brings you to a finish line of one race and almost to the beginning of a new adventure. I have resisted the urge to ramp up my workouts to fast following MMTR two weeks ago. I have taken advantage of getting extra sleep, over eating at times, and probably having a few too many beers (not all at once). Now that is even getting old.

Saturday was my first time being back in the pool in months. The water felt great and I must admit a welcomed refreshing change (1800 meters). I followed it up with an easy 40 minute spin and topped it off with a little time in the sauna. Sunday we ran. We set out on a course Scott mapped out and after a few turns we starting hitting the hills… nice ones, challenging ones and my body felt alive. The air was cold and the sun was bright. I was in heaven for the 13 plus miles that my body was in motion.

So I am diving back into my research and reading in preparation to this next adventure. Race fees are high and entries are limited. Crossing my fingers that I will even get in. Regardless of the outcome I will post the details of what I do know for 2009 on Dec.1st.

Until then I will be keeping up with all of your happenings. Heck I may even post a picture of my new haircut once my stylist straightens out my bang mess . It was worth it because my new shoes ROCK!!

Yay for new shoes! Even at the expense of the bangs :) Looking forward to hearing what you have planned next!

I have a really sad hair mess right now. I just need to pony up the cash to get it done - it's so much more fun to spend it on bike or run stuff.

I need to channel your running so badly, I have to remember why I love it and get back out there!

The only constant is change...fun times; bring 'em on!

You're going to wait until Dec 1st to tell us? Aarrrggggg! I hate waiting. ;-)

Glad to hear you are feeling so good after the race. Rock on.

Glad you are liking your new shoes. You'll have to post a picture of them. I think running in the crisp air does make you feel alive.

A bit of a cliffhanger there.... interesting.

I like the sound of that triathlon: Swim, spin, sauna.

Looking forward to the Dec. 1 post.

Get a Mohawk hairdoo, and come run Mohican 100 in June.
It's gonna be a fun one, plus it's the 20th anniversary of that race.

Only running can make you feel alive.

Ooh, I think I might know what's possibly in store for you in 2009. Dec 1st is a date that's also on my mind.

The recovery sounds like it's going well!

Aw, I'm jealous of your swim, spin, sauna workout. It's been a long time since I've been in the pool.

Enjoy your continued recovery. I can't wait to hear about the new challenge!

The old post race slump between the next big goal. We know it well here in the Barnes household. Fortunately that all goes away and motivation is once again renewed when the next goal has been set!

I've been putting tile on our guest bathroom floor. It's consumed all my valuable blog time. I've been out doing some fairly difficult training runs but not taking any photos or posting. Michelle and I are going to try three marathons in three days over the Thanksgiving holiday. The fun begins on Friday and ends on Sunday. After that I've got what we call the Dumb Ass Race which in fact is well named. You climb straight up for 2500 feet in the first 2.5 miles of the 6.5-mile loop. The Dumb Ass part comes with the five (5) loops we do. This race will make you want to use the handicap bars when using the toilet. I'm talking thrashed quads.

OK then, I've basically provided you with a short post.
