Unexpected Change

Amazing how fast certain events can change your life.

Scott’s job was eliminated this week. We thought he was safe but that was not the case. The economy is fragile. So after regrouping yesterday we quickly put a new plan in place and will just do what we need to do until he finds new employment.

So no races. No gym membership. No extras of any kind. No long lines for Christmas shopping.

We are thankful for the support and encouragement we are receiving. We are still rich with many things and it is times like this that you realize it most.

I can totally relate. Matt has been out of work for sometime now. He is enjoying his time with Morgan, but is hoping something will fall soon. It is tough out there these days.

Sounds like you guys know what you need to do to make things ok. Definitely making a few sacrifices will help make things easier. Best wishes.

Sorry to hear, hope that it won't be too long. Good luck -- sounds like you have a good plan in place, and you're so right about your richness comment :)

I'm so sorry to learn of this, Robin. I also know quite a few people who are out of work and many more who go into work not knowing if they will be sent home. My job at the public library was eliminated just about 1.5 years ago... right when the economy first started giving people the shake-up. Thankfully I was working two jobs at the time and I'm still with the other one. These are very scary times.

You & Scott have the strength of your relationship to help get you through. You WILL make it through. On the running front... the beauty of running is that excpet for the cost of your kicks, running is practically a cost-free sport... no gyms or fancy equipment required. These are good times to be a runner. :o)

Big hugs and best wishes to you... you guys will pull through!

Total suckage. Good news is, you can lace up your shoes and go run outside your door for little to nothing. I'm glad you guys have a big support network. Holler if there is anything I can help you with.

Nobody is immune to the tough economic times we're facing, but you really only need 2 things - your family and your health - and knowing you, you'll always have both of these bases covered. Of course, it doesn't hurt to have friends either...and on that note, if you need ANYTHING at all, Janis and I are close by. G

I've been hearing this a lot lately. I hope and pray the economy improves.

So sorry to hear this. These are terrible economic times and no one is safe. But your tenacity, adaptability, positivity and toughness will serve you & Scott well, and you will get through this. I wish you & Scott all the best.

Oh, crap. I'm so sorry to hear that. I thought it was tough here -- my hubby is having a week's pay cut -- but losing a job entirely is a completely different thing. I'll send positive vibes your way!

Hang in there... I'm sure you guys will land on your feet.

In the meantime, maybe no "sanctioned" races.... you could always fire up some rogue races like the one Sacha did a couple of weeks ago. No fee....

I will say a prayer for the two of you. If there is anything we can do for you, just ask.

Love the decisive action and great attitude. With those attributes, there's nothing you can't overcome.

Sorry to hear that. Hang in there and nothing wrong with no races for a little. You have MMTR memories to last forever. Good luck to Scott and you.

Glad you guys have a plan and, from the sounds of it, a good attitude too. Fingers crossed he'll find a new job soon.

Yep, the economy is in the shitter and we haven't even come close to the worst of it. At all. The domino affect hasn't even started. It's so scary. You just don't know what's coming. I had 10% of my hours cut last week and hope to GOD that's the worst of it, cuz Dominic is just doing tile work here and there where he can.

Hang in there. Go run.

Robin, Tammy and I are thinking about you and Scott. Our prayers will be with you both. Together you both will get through this tough time. It is not easy to see this, but in time you will look back and see that this was just a blow down across the trail. You get around it and the trail is clear once again. Lift up each other in time of need. Rick

That bites! Having experienced the sudden loss of employment I know it's not fun and can be very stressful. That said it seems that when one door slams shut another opens.

Hope your "A" plan for employment works out for Scott. You probably won't be able to get any time on the computer while he sorts through all the Monster.com and craigslist.com job postings for your area.

Hang in there and take the opportunity to enjoy your time together while Scott is searching.

Wow! I am so sorry to hear that. Hopefully it will only be short term. Keep positive and you will both make it through this

So sorry to hear that. I keep losing people I work with left and right.
I hope it wasn't due to outsourcing or something irritating like that.

Just believe you'll get through it, and you will.

Hi there. I have read your blog for a while but my first comment. I am sure right now it seems like the worst thing but you mind find the next thing he does is even better. Glad to see you have good spirits! The great part about running is that you don't need a gym.. :)

So sorry to hear the news. I love your amazingly positive attitude, though. My husband is in the financial industry, and so the economy is always on our minds. I hope something turns up real soon for your husband.
