Since this is part of the Iron event I have in November I am thinking it needs to happen. I need to get wet. The Masters Swim class did not happen. Long story but it just did not happen. So now I sit and begin to obsess about not swimming and it already being February!! My ramp up, focused, serious training plan really begins 30 weeks out from the event. Basically I have until April 1st to have something in place. Am I off target in that thinking? Will it happen?.... I guess time will tell.
Until then I continue to run and cycle... rinse and repeat. In fact my running is right on target and feeling solid. Distance is down some but my overall pace and level of energy has increased. My cycling is on track but I could push that some more and will.
Must go for now and obsess some more......

Ehhhh forget it. Go get yourself a life jacket the day of the race and you're good to go JK!!
Get to it Momma! ;-)
the trick to swimming is to just struggle through a few days in a row, once you get the feel for it the comfort comes.
My roommate just started swimming last year around this time and wasn't able to swim continuously more than 25 meters, but within the first month you build up the strength in all those muscles you never use.
Good luck!
You still have so much time. I'm sure you'll get yourself on track well ahead of schedule.
I continue to run and cycle... rinse and repeat.

LOL well at least your clean :-)
You have plenty of time, and that is good your obsessing now so by April u will be ready to Swim or living in a padded room -haha
I am finally starting to get my grove back took all of January grinding it out...
OK I am back to obsessing myself over this 24 hour thing, not ready to commit to it yet but things are going pretty good now that on race day that might be the goal !!
See ya!!
great job on the running and cycling, the swimming will happen, i think you have plenty of time and will do great.
Swimming seems to be where I am getting my best workout, these days. Especially while dealing with the knee issue. I am thankful that I love swimming and have this option to keep myself active!
Good luck getting back into it!
You still have plenty of time. Dont stress too much about it
Don't fret my friend.....
I start the "swimming" tonight, kicking and screaming I HAVE to do it. Just chill or start swimming on your own and don't wait for partners.
Your running and biking is on target which is good. I am sure having a nice solid base in these 2 events will help you stay motivated once you hit the pool. You have plenty of time. Things will fall in place.
You are strong! You'll find a way, especially since you are already planning now.
in your weather swimming is a bit of a chore......so lucky here, leap into the car in swimming costume and return with a towel around me. BUT.......swimming training does need a week or two of very ugly feelings and soreness while reprogramming the muscles. After that not so bad. Remember to swim before cycling if combining the two. It is not very easy the other way round.
Yes, relax. You have plenty of time :-)
I really hate swimming as well.
It is the shortest part of an IM distance.
But masters does help and gives me a little motivation.
You will get the swimming done. Just start out slow on it, you got a lot of time before the real work begins.
I am always amazed at how you tri homies find a way to manage your workouts with your busy lives. You do a great job with it. Keep on keeping on, Rockin Robin!
2 out of 3 isnt bad :) eeek swimming is scary! LOL. you are going to do great!!!! you will get that swimming base no doubt!
Go swimming!!
You crack me up!! Try swimming in your bathtub--it's huge! Kidding!
Thanks for your helpful comment on my decortaing dilemma!!!!! Come on over, and I'll give you a paintbrush!!
Hugs!

You still have time. Doesn't have to be with a group or even in a pool if you have a lake or ocean nearby you.
Do you already have a pretty strong swim background, say, from having done some competitive swimming either in high school or in college? If so, you'll be fine swimming on your own. If you don't, I suggest either taking some lessons or finding a coach to help you out occasionally. One of the biggest mistakes I made the first time I trained for an ironman was thinking I could gradually build up my swimming the same way as I could in running and cycling on my own.
Triathlon training = obsession
Oh crap I was only in HR zone X for that amount of time...not enough; or now with a power meter on my bike it is more like this
I was only at X watts vs Y watts, Why Why Why!
Oh well, without obsessing every little detail we would be...normal.
i am the exact opposite. i hate running but am loving the pool (see current post).
what happened to the masters team?
p.s. you should be getting in good base training right now. my event is in august and i am swimming 2-3x's a week. but then again, i love the pool. hate running.
Don't look to me for any advice...I am still swallowing more than I am swimming!
Don't worry, the swimming is the easy part! Seriously, it won't take you long to get into 2.4 mile swim shape. Unfortunately for me, I'm avoiding the bike which is really really not good. Ugh!! There is time for both of us though, I'm sure. :) Have a great weekend!
The swimming will come. It's so hard to think about swimming this time of the year. You're strong, it won't be a problem by November.
It's tough for me to get to the pool in the winter! It will happen!! Don't worry!
