Course Description... what?!!

Maybe it is a good idea to read the FULL DESCRIPTION of a race course BEFORE you sign up…lol!!

This weekend Scott and I are riding in the Issaqueena's Last Ride event with some friends to benefit the Foothills Alliance Sexual Trauma Center.

Issaqueena’s Ride
Course Description: Issaqueena’s Last Ride is a challenging, mountain ride. The century features a cumulative elevation gain of about 8500 feet highlighted by the climb toward Whitewater Falls and Wigington Overlook. The metric is shorter but includes the major climb. The 35 mile is hilly but does not go into the mountains. Please know your strength and do not over-reach.

I have signed up for the metric distance (62 miles). What the freak.... I thought by selecting the metric distance that I would avoid the nastiest climb. Too late to turn back now! :))

Last weekend we rode in the Meals for Wheels event and I am thrilled to say that Team Harper raised more than $14,000 to feed inbound residence.

It was an honor to be a part of this team and event. Just another reason why I feel so led to be a part of the 2009 Challenge to Conquer Cancer.
So wish me luck as I grind the gears this weekend. Oh... did I mention that the forecast is calling for some possible rain??

Good luck! You'll do great. I love signing up for things I don't think I can do (like the Santa Cruz Mtns challenge--11,000 feet/100 miles--GULP!)

It's a daunting, but doable climb, with 2,000ft in 10 miles ~ 3.8% average grade. If it comes late in the ride pacing yourself will be crucial though. A "shallow" :D ... 10 mile climb is all about expectations management.

You can do it, and what a great accomplishment it will be! I hope you can spare another 8oz for a camera. Love it if you could share that Overlook view. ;-)

Best of luck. I'll be rooting hard for the both of you!

Yeah, I think we anything has the word "Mountain" on it, I would be a little scared myself. You will do great, just jug along and you will get to the end.

I know exactly how you feel. I signed up for Ironman Utah without seeing the profile...how stoopid of me. There is over 6000 feet of climbing on the bike and 2500 running. Fast fingers are not always a good thing!
