Experience x3

This past week had offered different experiences that are all great in their own way:

Humbling Experience: I continue to receive donations for the Ride to Conquer Cancer. My goal was to raise $5000 and to date I am just over $6000. Still today I want to do all I can to raise funds to provide future research and treatment to those who are undergoing treatment. Just this past weekend two of my team members lost family members battling cancer. This part SUCKS and it only makes me realize that this is about something that matters and is much bigger than me.

Embarrassing Experience: So I am one of those riders who believe that it is safer to rider with another person than to go solo. Sunday I opted to ride the trainer due to poor weather. About an hour into the ride I was sweating it out in my garage and decided to reach for an addition water bottle on the floor and not clip out while doing so. Yes I ended up on the CEMENT floor and as a result I have a nasty green and blue hip BUT my sweet new bike is fine. This was my first question to Scott as he rushed to my rescue... "what about my bike"... :)) Just to make sure my hip was good I changed into my running shoes and went for a short run. All is goooooddd. Scott is still laughing at how a person can wipe out on a trainer.

Strong Experience: While riding with Scott on Monday morning I took a nail in my tire. Long story short... only took 40 minutes to change my tire. True performance tires are very tight and almost impossible to muscle on the rim. I wanted NO help and so it took forever but I DID IT :))

So with this amazing week I am ready to tackle our Thursday night Mountain ride. Bring it!!

Great news on the fundraising.

I have never fallen off the trainer, but knowing the klutz I am, I figure it will happen sooner or later.

I noticed the tires I use for racing are a real pain to get on as well

Robin,
There is a trick to removing tires....It's all about getting the bead into the drop center. If that statement is greek to you (or any other language that you don't understand), I can show you what I mean in about 5 minutes. You are going to the lake this weekend? I will show you there.

Oh yeah....how is it possible you can wipe out on your trainer?? ;)

way to go on the fundraising! LOL about falling off the trainer and only worrying about the bike!

Cancer: my mom, tears, pain, blackness, it's an evil SOB Robin. Go kick its ass.

Training for the X-Games? ...lol. You'll heal, the bike wouldn't. ;) Very common on mtn bike rides - always falling against a rock or tree or doing a wheelie and landing on your butt. I guess this qualifies as weak-point training?

Marsh timed me on Wednesday when I did mine. 8 minutes. It's a skill. You'll get better - since you are insisting you do it yourself - and kudos for that. And they say Germans are stubborn! :D Welsh?

Things seem to be going pretty great for you. Yahoo on the fundraising, you inspire me.

giggle...giggle...I wish I could of been there when your crashed on the trainer, but then again I giggle when strangers trip. Glad you didn't break a hip.

BTW, I took over an hour changing my first tire but felt like I had run a friggin marathon when I was done. I was so proud I was looking for someone to hang a medal around my neck. ;)

Fantastic job with the fundraising! I wish it was easier to change a tire too. When I got my flat I had to ask Matt for help.

Awesome work on the fundraising!

I'd totally be the one falling off a trainer too. Glad you're okay!

Robin can heal, but the bike? You got to protect that! ROFL... besides, if you didn't ride it into the wall, it doesn't count ;-)

Out of curiosity, what type of performance tires do you have? It took a bit of work to get the Pro Race 3s I have off my tire, but it was a bit easier getting them back on.

This falling over thing must be something in the water! Check out my adventures from today.

Glad you bike was ok though!

Remember in case you don't already to carry some rubber gloves, they'll save your hands and kit.

Wonderful post... glad both you and the bike are ok! Awesome job on the fundraising and muscling on the tire :) I have yet to practice that... but know I need to soon...

Congrats on the fundraising! And I know what you mean about riding alone, so I hit the trainer a lot too...

Robin,

Awesome accomplishment on the fundraising. Cancer is so unrelenting and it is people like you that pedal for a larger purpose that are providing hope and support that someday a cure will be found and there will be no more loss to endure.

Glad your hip and bike are both doing fine.

OK, falling over on the trainer is about the only thing I've not done on a bike that is falling-related. You get the prize :-)

Like the blog keep it up! My bike decided to leave the trainer this morning, and I have a 50 miler on Saturday, and the back wheel is toast!
