102

After a little drama (created by myself) I finally decided on my ride location and arrived for a very wet beginning to my first ever 100 mile ride. A group of 7 headed out in a down pour at 7am on Saturday morning. There was no way I was bailing after I dragged my butt out of bed.

The route would be an out and back with lots of flats and a few rollers along the way. By far it was nothing like all of the climbing we have been doing during our weekend training rides. A welcomed break.

I must admit I loved every mile of this ride and this came to a surprise since I was not really "feeling it" when the alarm screamed at me to get up. But like most days, once my feet hit the floor I good. No big funny thrills to reports so here are some quick stats:

Total distance: 102 miles
Avg. pace at halfway point - 20 mph
Overall avg. pace - 19.3 mph
Avg. heart rate - 136 bpm
Max heart rate - 167 bmp (this happened maybe 4 times and then dropped back to the avg. range)
Fluids - between 85 and 95 oz.
Gels - 6
Food - 1 pb&j

Upon arriving home I showered and then slipped into my new compression Cw-X tights I scored for $40 at a local Tri shop on their sale rack. To soon to cast my opinion on whether these help with recovery but they felt good so I am happy with my purchase.

Craziest thing was that I felt great following the ride. No need for a nap. Could this be a sign of improvement?

awesome ride! I'm wondering if that's enough fluids for you though...

I'm never feeling it when the alarm sounds before the sun comes up. There's something wrong with those who are ;) That's a strong ride for your first 100 miler. Great job! Found your blog through Shannon ;) Hope you don't mind me crashing it?

Congrats on your first century! Terrific pace, esp. in rainy conditions. And what a score on those CWX tights. I need to find me some compression tights too soon.

Nice, fast ride. Congratulations!

Love blasting down some flats once and awhile. Good for developing speed too. Love the tights. I should get some myself. Thanks for the tip.

Great ride and a great score on thse CW-Xs!

5 bottles in 100 miles ain't a lot though! Same with the gels; is that enough?

I recognize those feet!! YOu are awesome! And as Wes said, are you drinking enough fluids? It was humid on Saturday big time even in the rain.

Hey Robin,

Nice job on the century! Fast too, especially if you consider that you weren't dead after.

I agree with some of the others that the fluid intake and fuel intake both seem low... but we're all different.

In my opinion, the best part about recovery tights is that they make you focus on recovering i.e. chill out. The blood flow, muscle recovery thing... who knows.

Cheers,
