Being Healthy

With being a taper week I decided to invite my husband with me for an easy, enjoyable cycle ride through the country side last night. For some odd reason I always seem to get a bit nervous when riding on the roads. It normally takes a few miles for me to get comfortable with the riding. Temps were hot but never played a factor in the overall ride. Since I have not mastered the art of reaching for my water bottle to hydrate I am often parched by the end of the ride. Must work on mastering this skill.

This morning I was up at 4:41am for a morning run with my friend. We met at 5am and quickly headed off for a hilly 4 mile run. Not sure of the pace but I am convinced that running hills in the dark is far easier than in the daylight. Temps were perfect and I felt really good. Some quick stretching, shower, and off to work.

Tonight I will run 3 more with my husband. I am enjoying breaking the runs up and feel that I am gaining mental strength by doing this. Legs are not near as fresh towards the end of the day so I am training my body and mind to just keep moving and run past the feeling of being tired.

As I drove into work today I noticed something that really frustrates me. A picture will state why I hate what I saw.

This is why I LOVE fitness and all that comes with it. If your goal is to be healthy and feel good than smoking is one of the first things that must go. I would love nothing more than to make this planet smoke free. One could only hope and pray this will happen one day.

Happy Running.

Robin

Smoke free planet...it will happen someday. You can already begin to see it as parents educate their children more.

I look forward to the run tonight and spending the time with you.

Mmmm, delicious cigarette butts! Maybe the little birds can use what the humans selfishly throw away to build a stinky nest for their newborn chicks.

I'm so glad I rid myself of the cigarette burden years ago. What a senseless addiction: expensive, self-perpetuating, unhealthy, inconvenient, and absolutely does nothing for you other than "calm" your nerves, bringing you back to normal. Huh? So, I pay $3+ for a pack of cigarettes that will help me feel normal? All that, and stinky breath and clothes, yellow teeth, and cancer? Yippee!

Great post, Robin!

Amen...I was a pack day smoker for 10 years and quit cold turkey 5 years ago. I don't know how I ever smoked...nasty!

What are you talking about? I still smoke a 5 pack a day :P LOL JK! I TOTALLY hear you!! Fortunately I never smoked but it IS a nasty habit. Luckily in NY you can't smoke in public buildings. All the smokers are forced outside. I'd totally dig a smoke free planet too :)

Never Smoked that crap but my Dad did for years & I know it's a nasty addictive habit...

SO last year I picked him up at the airport as he flew in to spend a few days in Sunny FL...so me being the nice son that I am :-) I said go out and smoke a cigarette I will go look for ur luggage...cuz I Know he hadn't had a puff for at least 4 hours traveling and must be stressing out.

Well he said "that's OK I quit 2 weeks ago"...huh?! WTF!

I almost passed out right there, he has been smoking since he was 16 years old--YIKES but that's how it was back then...anyways I make NO excuses for him BUT so glad he quit because I was the one who bugged him for SO many years to quit, ahhh that was such a great moment!!

Now let's talk about this... YOU SAID: This morning I was up at 4:41am for a morning run with my friend.

Way to get up that early & train... that is something I really need to practice is a few morning runs (I am such a horrible morning peep) umm let me make up an excuse ...UMMM it might not be hot enough for me --LOLOL that's why I don't get up that early :-)

Good Post & good workouts!

I quit smoking when I got married, then off and on again for a long time. I think just a couple of months ago I finally broke it again for good. No more 5-6 smokes a week for me. It just doesn't make sense. It's amazing what people will do to themselves if the affects are very S-L-O-W. Great workouts! I'm not a morning peep either, but I'm working on it. Mental toughness is so important.

Ouch! What are you going to think of me? I still smoke, although I cut down considerably since I am running.

But I never, never litter :).

That's just nasty. People littering their own city. Disrespectful...

I wish it would happen too. David and I get so discouraged when we're downtown and have to choose to sit inside instead of in the nice weather at the restaurants, because we don't want to be sat down beside smokers, especially with our 2 yr old with us.

just sucks....

Great morning run!!! good for you.

Even though I have never smoked, I am much more allergic against it since I run. Smoker must hate themselves; or well, at least hate their bodies, nope?

I never understood how smokers think that it throwing those butts out the window isn't littering. I guess it's the same people who think speed limits and stop lights don't apply to them either. Maybe the more ostrocised we make them feel by banning every public place from smoking, the more of them will get the point and quit.

my family was a big smoking/tobacco family, i think this is why i'm such a strong advocate against it. It truly is a horrible habit and it confuses me why anyone would want to start in the first place. i just wish some people (especially teenagers) weren't so ignorant.
