GREEN LIGHT

The results are in!! On Wednesday I had a basic metabolic panel of blood test ran to include a kidney function test and all reports show within the “normal” range. So with these results I was given a green light to treadmill run.

Note: Basic Panel checks for electrolytes (sodium, potassium, chloride, and CO2), creatinine, and glucose.

What amazes me is how your mind can one day absolutely hate the treadmill and the next love and cherish this robotic machine. I must admit that last night when I stepped on board I was a bit nervous but after the 3rd mile I was feeling more comfortable. One 20 oz. electrolyte drink and one 20oz. bottle of water was consumed during the 10 miles I ran. I ran a slower pace at 9:30 per mile and checked my heart rate every 2 miles. All went well and I felt so wonderful once I had completed my run.

I will continue to take in more electrolytes during the day as well as while I run. This has been the root of evil for me and I am ready to learn and move forward.

Tonight I will run 12 miles and then see what Saturday brings me. Next weekend I can return to running outdoors so until then I will be grateful for the treadmill. All it takes is the right mental focus and anything can be done. My focus is the upcoming 54 mile Ultra and I will do whatever it takes to stay healthy and reach my goal.

Crazy, isn't it?! I'm so glad you are having a nice new affair with your treadmill :) Yay on the normals on all your tests. That has to put your mind at ease. You are doing a great job Robin...training hard, but smart. You will be ready!

That's awesome news! Looks like the weather will benefit you this weekend by near constant cloud cover and cooler temps, with occasional rain. Just watch out for the lightning! See you Sunday, if not sooner...

green is my favorite color light. i'm so jealous you have one. today i have a yellow light but if i squint hard enough it almost looks green. :)

it's great that you're running so soon after that scare. i had no doubt you'd kick some serious boo-tay.

Robin,

Glad you have recovered from your scary event. Sounds like things are looking up for you.

David Horton told me about "Horton Miles" so I'm not surprised that a 50 miler is actually 54 miles.

Get some S-Caps and use them in the hot weather to keep those electrolytes in check. Also go to the Western States 100 Web site at www.WS100.com and look at the section on hydration and running in heat. They have a very well written section by Lisa Bliss who was the women's winner at Badwater this year. She serves as the medical director for WS100.

Take care and stay cool!

I have a love-hate relationship with the treadmill. More love, though, I think. Sometimes it's like a saving grace.
