This weekend was far from normal. At points I would even bet that I drove my husband crazy. For more than 18 months I have been meeting other runners for early morning Saturday runs. For the last 18 weeks I would meet these 3 wonderful ladies and we would set off on an adventure in the trails for hours. So I should have been excited to “sleep in” this past Saturday morning ..right?? Well my eyes opened at 6:45am and the day was just an odd weird miss placed feeling all day long. I just felt out of sorts.
Last week I must have emailed close to 8 race directors trying to find a somewhat local 50 mile trail event. I did find two but just as you would think they were full. Some I never received a response from at all. Friday I found a 50k (thanks Wes) and emailed the race director to pose a crazy question of running his course for a 50 mile distance. Well I did hear back from him and he welcomed me to join his race. Told me that markers would be in place before the race and I could start at 5:30am two hours before all other runners. I think I completely lost Scott when I mentioned that we could just slee inthe car at the race site. This sounded perfect (to me) but…. I have been grounded. My husband and a dear friend helped me through this process. One - this race falls on Thanksgiving weekend. Two - I promised my family I would scale back on the miles and plan for something next year. My boys are concerned that I need to better address the stomach stuff and worry about me getting sick on these longer runs.
So with that said I am FINALLY going to LET IT GO. Can someone pass me a beer?
Today I have an appointment with a trainer at the Sports Club for a program assessment. This will be great and will get me focused and moving in the right direction again. I will also be adding some events to my sidebar on my blog screen so that I keep focused on future goals that have been set.
This girl will be more than ready come next season!! Now I just need to relax.

Ya know, I was gonna mention that beer has been the cure all for my on GI issues. I'm glad you discovered this little secret for yourself!
As I said else where in blogoland... Sometimes the best decisions are the hardest decisions.
I hate it when I get grounded. It sounds very wise though and I know we will see big things in 2008 from you!!
Robin. this sounds like a great plan to me. i know it was hard. i can't wait to hear all about your assesment. we'll get our GI ducks in a row together ... good for you. i know you'll keep running through this, but without the official "training", you can enjoy the holidays, enjoy some sleeping in, figure out your stomach issues & move forward - i'm really excited for you! good call. z.
Oh...honey. I would rather be driven crazy by you than not be driven crazy at all.
I am glad of your decision not to run the 50 miles this weekend. Letting your legs "fully" recover is the best thing to do. The races will come...I PROMISE...and I will be beside you each step of the way as you pursue not only your 50mile goal, but all other goals. Not only running goals, but personally, professionally, and ..... "husbandly"? (LOL)
Girl I will pass you a keg AND a bottle of Jack.
2008 baby!!!! You WILL ROCK!!! ;D ;D ;D
It is a hard thing to do and wait for next year, but there will be more Ultra's out there to conquer in '08.
Just experiment with different things and you'll be rockin it on the trails again.
It really sounds like you made the best choice. You need to figure out the tummy problems and then you will just tear those trails up! I am so excited to get to go along on this ride with you into next year!
Sorry to hear that you've been grounded. I had to laugh though. Every Thanksgiving for the past 4 years, I've been in California at a soccer tournament with my youngest daughter. Since this is probably her last year of club soccer, I'm actually looking forward to running the Thanksgiving races starting in 2008. Altough, I can safely say that my wife would never think that sleeping in the car was a "natural / normal" thing to do.
Take care and enjoy your Thanksgiving.
I agree with the others, Robin. That sounds like it was the best decision. Your stomach issues need to be settled or you're likely to face that again, and it's just not healthy. You'll get your race, and a little time relaxing those miles before ramping up again, just might be the ticket.
I know it's been a hard decision for you. When can we have a beer together?
Very very very smart decision. If you leave a little bit of hunger in the tank, it will grow. Use it all up and you burn out. Have fun, figure out the problem, mix it up, and get your plan for next year.
You don't have to run ALL the races! LOL
;-)

Hey Robin...You are going to have a great 2008' race year!!relax a bit and plan out what you want to run in 08'
Robin, I know it is tough to let go alittle especially with the base you have, but I think this sounds smart. The GI stuff probably isn't going to resolve itself as it seems to be pretty consistent. I've heard the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. See, you are not crazy, you are very very smart to take a step back and say, let's figure this thing out. Plus beer and husbandly goals sound pretty inviting! :D
Hope you will do 8 with us on the 8th. :D
In order for an overachiever to continue overachieving, said overachiever ... at times ... needs a temporary pause on amassing achievements :)
I have a hunch that you're going to have an even better year in 2007!
