Ran and Wind.... did not stop us..

Following my run last Monday I decided that I would give my shins a week’s rest. Why aggravate them further when it was clear they were telling me to back of just a bit? I listened and on Friday afternoon I purchased a new pair of shoes for $20. I hit the jackpot with pair that was on the SALE rack and once I applied my gift certificate I walked out with a beautiful new pair! Sweeeeet!!

Last week also was the first time I hit the pool. I had no idea of what to except and how the swim would go but once I started I just kept going. One lap lead to another lap and in less than 20 minutes of continuous swimming I stopped at 1000 meters with a nice smile. Great place to start. My 15 year old waited patiently and then the kick board drills began. He loves racing me and always smokes me on these. My legs were talking after a few of these but in a good way.

Saturday brought rain. At 8am a small group of 4 headed out to get in 31 miles of riding before the skies really opened up. A very light mist started our ride but we ended the ride in rain…lots of it. We were soaked but pleased to have gotten some miles in on such a dreary day.

Sunday brought sunshine and lots of wind (22mph). I almost opted out of this ride but am thrilled to say that I did not. We had a group of more than 30 riders that would head out for a 40 mile ride of climbing. Just 4 miles into this ride I began to wonder if I had bitten off more than I could chew. At 8 miles I voiced my concern and several offered advice on my gearing and I settled into the climbs. Miles of climbs. There were some descents but once you come down you know what is coming next…more climbing. I am so glad that I did not bail-out and finished what I started.

I was on such a high for the rest of the day on Sunday!! Lots of saddle time. Tired legs. Now I am ready for a new week.

More pool time this week. Running will resume. And more saddle time. Loving it all!

Wonderful to hear you're back in the pool!! And great job sticking things out on your rides. I don't love to ride in rain but rain sometimes happens during a race and I'm always glad I'd trained in it. Way to attack those hills. I need to do more of that in the upcoming weeks myself.
