Gadget Girl

As much as I pretend to NOT be the gadget girl…I AM.

Now with this I am also the person that will put off replacing gadgets in the hopes that by some miracle my current gadget will begin working again. Such is the case for my bike odometer. It has worked perfectly. I love that is has a heart rate option and very easy to use. So even after replacing all of the batteries and readjusting everything that can be adjusted it just is not working.

Now I feel like I am riding blind and this gets in my mind. What is our pace? What is our distance? You get the picture. So after hearing me complain about this on our most recent ride Scott announces that he is making me replace it. Enough is enough. If it were just replacing the odometer I might but I am wanting to upgrade two gadgets in one.

Now on the top of my wish list:

Garmin 405 w/ heart Rate Monitor

After a lovely goggle search I have found them online for just over $200. Hoping I can purchase sooner than later. Until then I will just nag everyone around me for the distance/pace details. Should not take long before someone pushes me over the side of a mountain. LOL!

Thank you all for your comments on my post yesterday. I am taking my recovery day(s) but I am not focused enough on the proper recovery food. I am all over it. No worries. Going to bed and at 9:15pm last night did help. Today I am operating on rest/fuel and not fumes.

Oooh, wouldn't that be a fun new toy! I would go mental not knowing my time/distance/pace too.

A Garmin will change your life...take the plunge and pick one up. You will never be sorry that you did.

A Garmin will change your life. But the 405 can be a fickle mate. Check out the 310 also and decide (I own the 405).

A HR monitor is the portal to serious training. All those books you read you'll end up going back and reading again once you do a few tests to find Max HR, LT, threshold power and a few others.

It's going to be soooo fun studying your Garmin traces which I'm sure you'll post, right? Please, please, please!

Get the XT forget the 405 it's a dog! Suunto has a nice deal in Costco?

If the HR part is still working and you just want speed & distance, maybe just get a standard bike computer? Those cost less than $50 and is what I used for years before last year.

Hey Robin. I agree with Stuart. the 405 is a dog. I have a co-worker that trashed his it because it was such a pain in the a$$ to work with. Very unfriendly for a multisport athlete. with the prices of the 305 units under $200 I would recommend the 305 or even the XT If you plan to use it for more than running.

I agree with others comments the 310 is a lottle more, but a million times better then the 405. If you can't do the 310, the 305 should be pretty cheap now compared to the 310/405 and is still better then the 405

My 405 is great for cycling, but somewhat uncomfortable to run w/ b/c it's so big. The bike mount for it is really inexpensive. Don't forget... our sponsor sells most Garmin models... If they don't have what you want at the store... have them order it! Can't beat the 30% discount!!

I would never have started running with the Nike+ kit, and probably wouldn't have stayed as interested if it wasn't for all the gadgets :) Have a great weekend!
