The Longest Country Loop

Every Tuesday night a ton of cyclist meet for a 32 mile country loop. Ride leaders announce their pace groups and off they go. Over the past 2 years these rides have always been a bit squirrelly and unpredictable. So many different skill levels and as a result I have not became a fan of these so much.

Last night, before the announcements, a small pack of us headed out. I felt good in this group. I knew these riders. After a very short warm up we kept ramping up the pace. Every now and then I would glance down to see numbers like 19.8 or 26.7 mph. It felt strong. Fast. About half way into the ride I realized I was the only chic remaining with these guys. I was pumped and I was not going to be dropped. BUT…..even the best rides can have things go wrong. One of the guys had 2 flats shortly after and then Scott had major issues with his chain coming off (6 times). So what started out strong and fast ended up being one of the longest country loops ever! LOL!

Mile 1 – 15 – 19.2 mph

Mile 16 – 31 – 15.6 mph

The after ride gathering is the best. Somehow beer always shows up and before you know it darkness takes us over and we all head home.

On tap today –

Speed Work

10 minute warm up / 6x30 second sprint max /2 min recovery /30 min total run time

Strength Training

Thank goodness my 16 year old son will be joining me. Makes the time much more enjoyable.
