Special-Kind-Of-Crazy

With a weekend full of rain it would only take a SPECIAL-KIND-OF-CRAZY to enjoy what was ahead.

Friday after work I had what you would call an hour-glass-run. Don't let the name fool you....it is challenging for sure. After my warm-up the run looked something like this:

8 min. hard

2 min. recovery with moderate effort

2 min. hard

2 min. recovery with moderate effort

8 min. hard

2 min. rocovery with moderate effort

Saturday would start with a swim session, then a mad dash home to change, followed by a 2.5 hour Sufferfest showing in our friends pain-cave. Surprisingly it went by fast and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Rain outside made it doable to be on the trainer for so long.

About to get really wet....

Sunday would be were the true crazy would really come into play. I could have opted to run my long run on the dreadmill and watch the rain from indoors but instead I chose to head outside for an adventure. When I started out the rain was coming down rather light. Nothing bad about that. About 2 miles in the wind picked up and the rain started coming down in sideways sheets. Even I questioned my sanity at this point but pressed on. At the halfway point I was greeted by Scott in the car checking on me. To be honest, even though it was cold and very wet this run was simply amazing. The sound of the rain, birds, and my water logged shoes were music to my ears.

Really wet...but loving it...

What I do realize is that it takes a SPECIAL-KIND-OF-CRAZY for anyone to sign up for an Ironman (or any other endurance event for that matter) in the first place and after this run I feel pretty sure I have some of that SPECIAL-KIND-OF-CRAZY already in me.

10 miles - 90 minutes - HRzone 3 long run target. HAPPY outcome! Right on target!

What kind of CRAZY did you get into this weekend?

I am pretty sure the definition of an endurance athlete is SPECIAL-KIND-OF-CRAZY

Awesome job on the workouts this weekend!!!

I think racing a half marathon in FAR from ideal conditions (wind, snow) counts as a special kind of crazy too??

All I can say is I am soooo glad I don't have any friends with pain-caves! LOL.
